  • Muhyo to Roji no Mahouritsu Soudan Jimusho

Posted on October 22, 2018 12:57 pm by Offkorn Comment

The Muhyo Bureau of Supernatural Investigation specializes in dealing with any and all problems arising from spiritual interference with the living. To first appearances however Tooru Muhyou and Jirou Kusano don’t seem to take their jobs all that seriously… which occasionally makes it difficult to attract new clients.

A multi-genre series mixing dramatic storylines with comic character behavior and exorcism-focused action scenes. The first half is episodic while the second is plot-driven.

  • Gintama.: Porori Hen

While not always dealing with world-ending threats, where the three members of Yorozuya are concerned even normal everyday events such as going out for ramen can result in mass destruction or alien invasion.

A collection of primarily comedic stories which occur during the first half of Gintama°. For the most part they can be watched even by those unfamiliar with the series.

  • Gintama.: Rakuyou Kessen Hen

Posted on October 21, 2018 5:11 am by Offkorn Comment

After all that’s happened with the government, Gintoki has been forced to leave the Kabuki district and lay low in Akiba with Katsura’s rebels. Utsuro is still out there though and Shouyou’s former students must now band together despite their differences to have any hope of defeating him.

A continuation of Gintama° with the same multi-genre style of mixed battle shounen and comedy elements. It’s heavily plot-driven and won’t make any sense if you’re not already familiar with the characters’ histories.

The girls working in Edo‘s red light district are expected to be able to like, or at least pretend to like, every type of man. For those who can’t manage it however there exists a certain incense which will cause anyone who breathes it in to instantly fall in love with the next person they see… a substance which is both easy to abuse and can lead to all manner of awkward situations.

A Gintama° side-story focused on romantic comedy and dirty jokes.

When Asahi Kuga’s physical death coincided with her avatar’s death in the MMORPG Union it spelled the end of both the group she played with and the game itself. Six years later Union has relaunched under a new name, and upon logging on Haruto Amou discovers Asahi there waiting for him. But is it truly her?

A romance-infused character drama with RPG-themed action scenes and occasional comic interactions.

  • Tsukumogami Kashimasu

With fire being a common hazard in Edo, residents often choose to rent furniture, clothing, or decorations instead of buying them outright. Okou and Seiji run one such lending shop which has developed a reputation for being uncommonly experienced with matters involving tsukumogami.

A partly episodic period drama with slight romance, mystery, and educational elements alongside a large amount of comic relief.

  • Aguu -Tensai Ningyou-

Posted on October 16, 2018 5:54 am by Offkorn Comment

Ai and Machi are both dancers, but Machi’s level of skill can only be described as extraordinary and it’s only after a chance encounter with a mysterious old man that Ai learns the truth: Machi’s abilities are granted by tortured beings called ‘Aguu’. The old man has dedicated his life to freeing the Aguu from their eternal torment, and he recruits Ai to help him in this task.

An action-drama with a large streak of comic relief.

  • Tales of Maj’Eyal

I briefly tried the browser-based version of this game some time ago but it seemed overly complicated and I’m not fond of permadeath in the first place (losing 10+ hours of progress to a missclick is beyond annoying). However, after buying the GOG version on whim one day I played again and this time around it become quite engrossing.

There’s a bunch of things to unlock/collect and with the ‘Adventurer’ option enabled you don’t have to worry about a single mistake erasing everything. That said… I would actually suggest playing on ‘Roguelike’ once you’ve unlocked everything you want to; the second half of the main campaign is nowhere near as good as the first half and it’s more fun to start a new character than slog through that mire. Getting started is really the hardest part, and this area guide does wonders to make things more accessible. You can also find immensely helpful class guides on that forum as well.

As far as the DLC go:

    – Ashes of Urhrok is the cheapest and also adds the least to the game. The new race and classes are really the only reason to pick it up.
    – Forbidden Cults on the other hand adds quite a bit to the game. In addition to the races and classes (one of which is a pain to unlock) it adds a large number of fully integrated new areas and even a new ability line to the Wyrmic class.
    – Embers of Rage adds a sequel campaign (that’s about 30-40% the size of the main campaign) which is decent enough if you don’t mind the accelerated leveling speed and hamfisted gold/merchant situation. Its endboss is a giant difficulty spike though. What’s far more interesting is the crafting system it introduces, which is a lot of fun to play around with.

So I’d say definitely pick up Forbidden Cults, but only grab the other two if/when you want to try something new.

Following the malfunction of an experimental quantum reactor both living things and machines alike across the global began to undergo startling changes, ultimately resulting in humanity being pushed to the brink of extinction. For these past seven years Leon Lau has been researching ways to fight back against the onslaught of hyper-evolved creatures, and with the successful activation of a hyperdrive engine he may have finally found the answer.

A mixed-genre series weighted heavily toward action.
