Following the events of Biohazard: Degeneration, Leon is investigating rumors of monster sightings in eastern Europe. There he becomes entangled in a civil war in which the rebel fighters have begun using bio-organic weapons to even the playing field against the government’s military superiority.

Unlike the prequel which doesn’t rely on any detailed references to the games, this one expects you to know what happened in the fourth Biohazard game. It mixes monster-horror action with a bit of war drama.

Seven years after the events of the first two Biohazard games, Claire Redfield ends up trapped in the middle of another T-virus outbreak. Leon S. Kennedy is tasked with the job of rescuing her and some other survivors, and the two of them stumble upon another conspiracy after getting caught up in a terrorist plot.

A full-CG action/horror movie. If you’ve ever played a zombie-themed corridor shooter, well this is basically that in movie form capped off by an elaborate boss battle.

Soushin Shoujo Matoi

Yuma works as a shrine maiden, hoping to one day awaken special powers like her ancestors had. Her friend Matoi on the other hand just wants to live a normal everyday life, a desire that ends up further away than ever after she accidentally gains the power to merge with a god.

A comedy with periodic bursts of action and a small streak of drama. What most stands out about it is the way Yuma and Matoi seem to be drawn/animated differently than the other characters.

DRIFTERS: Battle in a Brand-new World War

After Toyohisa Shimazu is critically wounded while holding the rearguard against the Eastern Army, he finds himself suddenly transported to a different world. There he meets others like himself, transplants from Earth called Drifters who have been recruited to fight a war against an implacable foe who wishes to eradicate all human life.

A mix of hyper-violent action scenes and picture-drama style comedy skits. While it involves characters from a wide variety of time periods, it mainly depicts warfare out of the medieval and Sengoku eras.

GRAVITY DAZE The Animation: Ouverture

Kat and Raven are exploring new areas far from Hekseville after a gravity explosion, and find themselves being attacked by unusual numbers of Nevi.

This promotional Anime for the upcoming second Gravity Daze game is split into two parts, which are presented in non-linear order. The first half has the two protagonists fighting off a hoard of Nevi that attack a port city, while the second half shows the initial gravity explosion that launched them away from Hekseville.

Cheating Craft

The National Special-Level University Exam, a grueling test that anyone seeking happiness or success in this world must pass. Its existence has given rise to two types of people, those that try to pass through diligence and study and those that try to pass by cheating. Now Mu-Ming the cheater and Qiao Yi the learner have set out to take the exam and free Mu-Ming’s father from wrongful imprisonment.

A cartoon-like battle shounen fond of extreme over-exaggeration. Everything here from the setting, to the battles, to the character interactions is pushed well over the top.

One night while playing a free-to-play RPG, Koyuki is given the opportunity to become a real magical girl. With visions of being able help people with magic dancing in her head she accepts almost instantly… only to discover that the magical girls of the real world have a very different purpose than those in fantasy.

An example of the ‘innocent game actually has sinister motives’ variety of show, this starts out earnest and cheerful only to quickly become dark and violent. Unlike some others though it doesn’t fall back on comedy or rapid mood shifts.

Monster Strike

Ren Homura has just returned to his hometown after a lengthy absence with no memories of the place. After being forced to replace his smartphone after an accident, he finds himself caught up in a game where monsters are summoned to do battle against one another… a game which seems to be related to his lost memories.

For the most part this is not a serious show and plays just about everything for laughs with a random sense of humor; it’s only in the last quarter or so it becomes a full battle shounen. It’s also shorter than the episode count would suggest, as each is only ~7 minutes long. Episodes with longer runtimes are padded with advertisements for various things related to the game and Anime.

Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru

Around 200 years in the future an organization called The Historical Revisionists labors to change history through the use of a time-traveling army of monsters. To prevent their meddling, warriors created from the spirits of various famous swords are sent back in time to fight them.

In reality this show mostly consists of daily life scenes focused on the swords’ antics around the citadel compound and their reminiscence of past events as weapons. The action aspects, when they show up at all, are relegated to a 5-minute or so mission segment toward the end of each episode.

Soul Buster: Jiang Xing Luan

An ordinary high school boy finds himself awakening from a strange dream with an unexplained cut on his palm, while a second dream shortly after gifts him with a card that he swears to protect with his life. This card is able to summon a hero from the past to battle on his behalf in a death game to decide China’s fate.

The show starts out using a standard proxy-battle setup and features a pronounced manga-style texture filter; a visual choice that may make it difficult to watch. Each episode runs ~10 minutes and it ends as the story continues to evolve.
