  • Re: CREATORS

Posted on September 18, 2017 3:12 pm by Offkorn Comment

Suddenly, without warning, characters from popular works of fiction begin appearing in the real world. Souta Mizushino finds himself at ground zero of the phenomenon and seems to be recognized by the apparent instigator of the incursions, despite being just an ordinary student with no creations of his own. What is his connection to this mysterious girl and how will the authors and artists cope with coming face to face with their creations?

An action drama with a strong 4th-wall breaking focus, moderate comedic presence, and a couple concentrated spots of ecchi. The first half is heavily skewed toward physical conflict between the creations while the second features more dramatic tensions regarding the creators’ work.

Ahiru pines for Mytho, yet both may as well be worlds apart based on their personalities and abilities. No one is more aware of this than Ahiru herself and she wishes she could do something, anything, for him. A wish that ends up granted late one night by a mysterious man.

A ballet-centric story about a story about a duck who becomes a magical girl. It’s very heavy on comedy and absurdity, to the point that the dramatic and romantic aspects are almost completely overshadowed.

Taki Tachibana lives in Tokyo while Mitsuha Miyamizu lives in the countryside. Despite their distance the two will both occasionally awake from a dream to find that they have swapped bodies. What is the source of this phenomenon and how will they cope with having to live a stranger’s life?

An otherwise conventional romance with a bit of supernatural mystery and a prominent amnesia theme.

Having defeated the massive alien construct that mysteriously appeared in their town, the magic club must now deal with the giant sakura tree that has been left in its place.

This continues directly from where the OVA series left off and so it would be a good idea to watch that first. That said it’s very different from the prequel, aside from the comedy style, and takes a much slower slice of life approach.

  • Project Zeorymer

Posted on August 17, 2017 7:40 am by Offkorn Comment

15 years ago a secret society had their most powerful mecha, the godlike Zeorymer, stolen by a traitor and were forced underground. Now having nearly finished constructing seven other robots they set out to recover what was stolen and cement their domination of the world. The original thief is long dead however and it falls to Masato Akitsu, who knows nothing about any of this, to pilot Zeorymer against the incoming enemy attacks.

An action-heavy series which has a number of character-driven dramatic subplots and a little nudity. Though inspired by a manga, this version heavily alters the characters and plot developments to a point where it can no longer be considered an adaptation.

In their third year of middle school Kotarou Azumi and Akane Mizuno end up in the same group during the sports festival, an arrangement that leads to the two becoming closer together. However this soon leads to complications, as Takumi Hira has long been attracted to Akane while Akane’s friend Chinatsu begins to develop an interest in Kotarou.

A school life love-polygon that’s presented in an almost entirely realistic style and develops at a measured pace. It’s a combination of lighthearted romance, small eddies of drama/angst, and comedic post-credits scenes.

  • World Fool News: PART II

Posted on August 9, 2017 12:06 am by Offkorn Comment

The bizarre workdays of the World Fool News staff continue as Takahashi seems to have become accustomed to the insanity surrounding him. Days of relative peace which are soon tested when the CEO of a rival broadcasting agency sets his sights on poaching Shimohira.

A deadpan absurdist comedy that’s structured like a newscast and features a small romance subplot. It’s not necessary to watch the prequel unless you want character introductions.

  • FRAME ARMS GIRL

Posted on August 7, 2017 11:13 am by Offkorn Comment

Though several people received a test model Frame Arms Girl named Gourai in the mail, Ao Gennai was the only one able to activate it. As a result she’s soon inundated with other Frame Arms models all wanting to battle Gourai.

A series that’s part proxy battle action, part advertisement, and part ‘cute girls doing cute things’. It uses a mix of conventional (Ao) and CG (the Frame Arms) animation while the ecchi takes the form of constant panty-shots alongside the occasional suggestive scene.

  • Akazukin ChaCha

Posted on July 22, 2017 10:52 pm by Offkorn Comment

Putting aside his misgivings regarding her erratic magic results, the great magician Seravy sends his apprentice ChaCha off to magic school with a mystic accessory set for protection. Joining her are a young werewolf and the apprentice of Seravy’s rival, both vying for her affection. Their help will be necessary in the days to come as she meets new friends and rivals while fending off attacks from a shadowy dark lord.

A random-style comedy with a love polygon subfocus and minor magical girl aspects in the first third. Those elements become the central focus in the middle part of the series, injecting a bit of drama, before eventually disappearing completely in the last third when it becomes a pure gag comedy. While originally based on a manga, it very quickly goes in its own direction.

  • Twin Angel Break

Posted on July 10, 2017 8:50 pm by Offkorn Comment

Soon after moving to Tokyo, the aspiring hero of justice Meguru Amatsuki finds a strange medal in her dorm room. It turns out to be a magical transforming device and soon she’s fighting evil with the help of the more reserved Sumire Kisaragi as a Twin Angel.

A straightforward magical girl show of the light and fluffy variety that leans more toward school-life comedy than action. There’s little drama and the ecchi is mostly restricted to episodic episodic transformation and bath scenes.
