Zombie Land Saga

Suddenly killed in a traffic accident, 2nd-year highschool student Sakura Minamoto awakens to find herself in a creepy zombie-filled house. Running for her life she manages to escape… only to discover that she herself is a zombie, raised from death to revitalize the fading Saga Prefecture as part of a zombie idol group.

An idol comedy focused on reaction and absurdist humor including a number of secondary dramatic subplots and a few horror elements.

Yakusoku no Nanaya Matsuri

Traveling to the secluded staging grounds of a special festival in the hopes of meeting his friend Atsushi Fujii, whom he hasn’t seen in years, Shouma Mihara gets lost and injures himself falling from a cliff. After being found by another attendee and brought to the village hosting the event he’s eventually informed that while Atsushi is not there, it may be possible to meet him later if he helps out with the festival preparations.

A character drama with minor mystery elements and a few action scenes. Though related to the Monster Strike franchise it’s effectively a stand-alone work.

Three cities, three people: Ming Xiao walking the streets of Beijing, homesick for the countryside. A model on the verge of retirement living in Guangzhou, Lin Yi. And finally Mo Li, an architect working in Shanghai consumed by memories of a childhood friend.

A set of short stories with themes of current day dissatisfaction. The first focuses on food, the second on workplace drama, and the third on past childhood romance.

Asuka Tsuchimiya and the other members of her school’s Radio Research Society gather one evening to perform a ritual rumored to open the door to a parallel dimension. Unsurprisingly the ritual fails. Or does it? Afterward a strange crystal is found, a crystal which seems to be broadcasting some sort of signal at a specific frequency. Inspired by the discovery they decide to try the ritual again using this new frequency… and suddenly find themselves transported to a world of ebony and gold.

A mix of schoolgirl comedy, sci-fi action, and character drama featuring a yuri-themed romantic subplot.

Lupin the IIIRD: Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon

Hawk, the ‘Ghost of the Bermuda’, a legendary soldier who was thought to have been killed suddenly appears one night to destroy the casino ship Goemon Ishikawa happens to be guarding. Goemon’s employer dies in the resulting chaos and he vows to avenge that death within 3 days… a seemingly impossible task in light of Hawk’s superhuman physical abilities.

A graphic action movie with the theme of overcoming personal limitations. While technically a sequel to Jigen Daisuke no Bohyou it can also be watched as a stand-alone.

Eiga – Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!: Take On Me

Now in their senior year of high school, Yuuta and Rikka’s relationship has remained stable despite the complications caused by her chuuni behavior. Touka’s sudden announcement that she’s moving to Italy and taking Rikka with her however sets off a panic resulting in a plan to convince Touka that the two of them have eloped.

A romantic comedy with both travelogue elements and a few imaginary action scenes. It’s a follow-up to Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren which can be watched as a stand-alone, though some of the impact will be lost without prior familiarity with the characters.

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki

While attending college Hana meets and falls in love with a man who reveals himself to be a werewolf. Yet far from being a problem the revelation instead only enhances their relationship, which quickly progresses from living together to having children. The city is a dangerous place for a wolf however and shortly after the birth of their second child the man is killed in a freak accident… leaving Hana to raise the two ‘wolf children’ alone.

A daily life journey with an early focus on romance and a few bursts of drama.

Long-lived and perpetually youthful in appearance, the Iolph keep to themselves and tend to avoid contact with others. A practice which does not save them from the invasion of their homeland and the abduction of their people at the hands of an empire looking to fortify its bloodline. The orphan Maquia manages to escape the assault, and while wandering aimlessly happens to stumble upon a baby whose parents were killed by bandits. A baby she decides to attempt to raise as her own.

A character drama with minor slice of life elements, an action-focused subplot involving the empire, and a re-occurring thread of romance.

Kagerou Daze – in a day’s

Caught up in a terrorist attack, Shintarou Kisaragi and the various members of the Mekakushi-Dan have to come up with a plan to both incapacitate the attackers and protect the other hostages from harm.

An alternate version of the events shown in Mekakucity Actors‘ 1st and 3rd episodes. There’s not much point in watching it as a stand-alone.

Traits which result in constant lectures from others in the department. Traits which may be required in order to get to the heart of a conspiracy involving the creation of biotech soldiers.

A mix of conspiracy thriller and character drama featuring a large number of action scenes.
