They decide to hold the Great Taoist Festival as a means of singling him out, a plan which Jing Lu disrupts by declaring that the victor of the tournament will be rewarded with his secret Stairway to Heaven technique.
A continuation of the previous Hiori no Shita series weighted more toward action. You’ll have to watch that first to see how the characters are related.

Dennis was born with genius-level intelligence, and as a result his mad scientist parents didn’t feel it necessary to genetically modify him as they did his four siblings.
