The sudden appearance of an 8th continent in the middle of the ocean triggered a new age of exploration. Explorers of all types ventured to the landmass in search of previously unknown lifeforms and resources… only to instead be faced with hardship and assorted disasters. A cottage industry of relief workers specializing in search & rescue has sprung up as a result, and despite his chronic laziness You Yin is one of the best.

A mostly episodic action-drama with intermittent comic relief and a slight adventure theme. Be aware that the 5th and 9th episodes are comedic parodies in a completely different style than the others.

Bungou Stray Dogs: DEAD APPLE

With gifted individuals around the world falling prey to a mysterious serial suicide phenomenon, the Armed Detective Agency is tasked with investigating a man known as ‘The Collector’ who may somehow be related. A man whom Dazai just so happened to have encountered 6 years earlier at the tail end of the bloody Dragon Head Conflict.

An original story taking place sometime before the TV series‘ third season featuring a similar genre composition. Brief character descriptions and assorted background information is provided during the opening sequence, allowing it to be watched as a stand-alone.

Tokyo is home to many people of all different varieties, both human and not, and it’s the Night Community Exchange Department’s job to handle any problems which may arise from the various nonhuman entities inhabiting the area. Arata Miyako has just joined the department’s Shinjuku office, and despite having no previous experience quickly finds himself thrown into the deep-end of mediating supernatural relationships due to his unusual ability to understand their speech.

A partly episodic procedural series with daily life elements, an occasional dramatic subplot, frequent comic relief, and a few minor action elements. Note that the manga-bundled extra episode is considered the 13th, while the other two are considered the 14th-15th.

A mixed genre series with minor harem elements and a moderate slavery subtheme set in a fantasy world resembling a virtual reality RPG.

While on a secret mission to investigate rumors of a legendary treasure said to have power over time, Shinsaku Takasugi and Kogorou Katsura find the object stolen out from under them at the last moment. Traveling to Kyoto in pursuit of answers, they discover an imprisoned man who inexplicably starts to glow… an event which triggers a massive change in their surroundings.

An occasionally comedic action-focused alternate history set in the Tokugawa period.

When someone needs a job completed at any cost they go to the intergalactic mercenaries known as Crushers. The Crushers won’t take just any job though, and those with less-than-legal requests often try to trick them into accepting tasks they normally wouldn’t. So when Joe’s latest job goes sideways he soon realizes he’s been played for a fool and resolves to make an example of the space pirates who dared mislead him.

An action movie with intermittent comic relief and a bit of nudity.

In a place as violent and crime-ridden as New Port City a normal police force just doesn’t cut it. For that reason the city has created a special tank-based task force to stand up against the toughest criminals… while causing untold amounts of collateral damage in the process.

A conspiracy-themed, police-focused action series with a large amount of comic relief. Technically a sequel to Dominion, effectively it’s a stand-alone work.

Believing himself to have an ordinary everyday life, Hajime Murata’s preconceptions become challenged a few weeks after the sudden appearance of an alien craft above Tokyo and the mysterious white giant who destroyed it. A new transfer student with a strange appearance and habits, a sudden display of supernatural power from a student council member, the suspicious behavior of those around him… events which combine to trigger a re-evaluation of just what ‘ordinary’ means.

Gekijouban Macross DELTA: Gekijou no Walküre

Desperately wishing to become a part of the Tactical Sound Unit Walküre, whose songs are integral to fighting outbreaks of a mysterious disease known as Vár Syndrome, the Windermiran Freyja Wion smuggles herself across the galaxy only to get caught up in a Vár outbreak while in transit. Rescued by the human pilot Hayate Immelmann, she manages to join Walküre just as war breaks out between Windermirans and the rest of the galaxy.

An alternative version of the Macross Delta TV series with a similar genre composition.
