  • Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note & Maou-sama, Retry!

Posted on August 25, 2020 9:06 am by Offkorn Comment

The Lord El-Melloi II Case Files series turned out to be a direct sequel to Fate/Zero that ends shortly before the beginning of Fate/Stay Night. Making it a perfect choice to watch between the two. Even better, it features two notable characters from Fate/Apocrypha and Prisma Illya (making it easier to watch those series afterward).

Content-wise it’s something like a detective mystery series infused with some standard Fate/-style action and occasional comic relief. The first episode is not representative of the series as a whole (the stand-alone episode 0 serves that role far better), to the point that if the backstory revealed within weren’t somewhat necessary I’d suggest skipping it entirely, while the rest of the episodes are split between an early episodic focus and a plot-driven remainder. There’s also a bit of a subfocus on philosophy, which would’ve probably ended up as boring as Zero‘s couch scenes had they not decided to keep the camera moving here. Even the most dialog-heavy sequences always have something to look at.

Maou-sama, Retry! unfortunately doesn’t compliment anything. It’s nothing but a pale imitation of Overlord with a worse protagonist and more gratuitous ecchi. Just ignore it.

  • Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan

In the Emiya household, food preparation is never a simple affair. Join Shirou, Saber, and various guests as they make and enjoy a variety of home cooked meals.

An educational, lightly comedic food-focused slice of life series featuring the cast of Fate/Stay Night. Prior familiarity with the characters is recommended.

With little interest in school life Hakuno Kishinami’s placid façade conceals thoughts and daydreams filled with hatred and death, feelings he cannot pinpoint the source of. That changes on the morning he visits a mysterious area of the school shrouded in rumors of suicide and waking nightmares, where he learns that this existence is nothing but a virtual world designed to trap potential Masters.

A philosophical dialog-heavy drama with occasional action scenes and small bits of slice of life-ish comic relief. It can be watched either as a stand alone story or as an alternate universe supplement to Fate/Stay Night.

During the third Holy Grail War the Grail was lost due to outside interference, only to suddenly resurface sixty years later in the hands of a group of loosely allied magi who proclaim their independence from the Clock Tower association. A proclamation marking the start of a new Holy Grail War, one in which two teams consisting of seven master-servant pairings fight to the death in order to have their wishes come true.

An action-drama with a touch of ecchi, comedy, and romance. It’s a stand-alone story taking place in an alternate reality where the events of Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night never occurred.

Detecting an abnormality in the past which threatens to cause the extinction of the human race, the Chaldea organization puts into motion a plan to send Master/Servant pairs through time to ensure humanity’s survival. However, after an act of sabotage only a single unprepared reserve recruit manages to make it through the process.

An adaption of the related game‘s prologue that starts out closer to a daily life comedy and later turns into an action-drama. Though for the most part unrelated beyond terminology, much of the movie takes place in an alternate version of Fate/Stay Night‘s setting (only the servants remain, some of whom have switched roles).
