Following the death of his father at the hands of an assassin, the young Tetsunosuke Ichimura vows to join the Shinsengumi in order to become strong enough to take revenge. After managing to join the group however he discovers that their job is far more difficult than he believed it to be.
A multi-genre series that mixes light-hearted everyday antics, deathly serious conspiracy-tinged drama, and the occasional graphic sword fight.

The three realms (heavenly, human, and boundary) keep their balance by cycling souls from one to another, often by force, with the responsibility of transferral falling to the boundary realm’s Black & White Warriors. The youngest of these are Heng Wang and Liang Yan, a unique pair who have never completed an assignment and only seem to excel at being late.
An action-drama with an initially large streak of comic relief which almost entirely disappears by the halfway point.
In a world where text-based communication has begun to dominate discourse, a virus has appeared that causes certain Kanji to run amok. To counter this threat the DEAVA organization has gathered up people with Verbalism abilities to pilot special mecha called Aquarions.
An action series with a large comedic streak and minor romance elements which becomes more of a multi-genre series in the second half. While the OVA that precedes the first episode is a crossover between Aquarion and Evol, the series proper has no connection to those shows beyond a few setting details.

Late to school on the first day of the new year, Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi comes across a girl staring pensively up at a tree. Coincidentally, Tsuyoshi is one of the rare boys she can talk to and this event will prompt her to get closer to him.
A school life harem-ish romance with an outgoing protagonist, moderate amount of comedy, and high level of ecchi content which transforms into a dramatic love triangle toward the end. It’s an alternate version of an earlier OVA series, with no relation to the 1995 OVA series of the same name.

Following World War III the Japanese military began to shift its focus toward training magicians, and to facilitate this nine specialized schools were created with the focus of producing both new magical technology and soldiers. Two uncommonly talented siblings have just been accepted to the most prestigious of these schools… only to find themselves drawn into a variety of conspiracies hatched by foreign powers.
An exposition-heavy action drama with minor spots of ecchi which uses reaction humor for comic relief. While it does revolve around a school, the focus ends up more on the military and the two protagonists’ personal lives.

At the end of the 19th century the Kingdom of Albion has been split into two powers, the Empire and the Republic, separated by a giant wall. This is the story of five girls of different backgrounds who have come together to work as spies for the Republic through the prestigious Queen’s Mayfaire highschool.
An alternate history action-drama that uses ‘cute girls doing cute things’ as its source of comic relief. Note that the show has several time-gaps and is not aired chronologically; chronological order is 2-3, 5, 4, 9, 1, 7, 6, 8, 10-12.

One night D’Artagnyan stumbles upon Lucifer singing alone in the moonlight and becomes overcome by a feeling she can’t explain. At the urging of her friend she attends a concert held by Lucifer’s former bandmates, now a famous idol group, and it’s there she realizes that she wants to sing as well.
While most of the series is a lighthearted take on becoming an idol, episode 0 is nearly a pure drama. Also note that although this is a part of the Monster Strike franchise, watching it does not require having seen any of the related shows.

A new shougun has been installed in Kyoto, and with Chidori’s assistance Nobunaga now turns his attention toward vanquishing the remaining feudal lords.
This features the same mix of comedy, historical information, and simple action sequences as the prequel. It’s a direct continuation that ends just before the Battle of Anegawa.

A young orphaned shinobi, Chidori decides to dedicate her life to serving Nobunaga Oda after he saves her from drowning and tells her of his desire to unite the country.
A random-style reaction comedy with occasional action sequences set in the Sengoku period. It follows the events of Nobunaga’s rise to power, from his defeat of Yoshimoto Imagawa to the march on Kyoto.
