  • Gakuen Handsome

Posted on December 30, 2016 2:22 pm by Offkorn Comment

Baramon High School is an all-boys private school for the elite. Having just transferred in, Yoshiki Maeda finds himself suddenly encouraged by the principal to fall in love with one of the other students.

A deliberately no-budget parody of the BL genre. There’s barely any animation, the character design is extremely simple, and the comedy is absurdist in nature.

  • DRIFTERS: Battle in a Brand-new World War

Posted on December 29, 2016 9:47 am by Offkorn Comment

After Toyohisa Shimazu is critically wounded while holding the rearguard against the Eastern Army, he finds himself suddenly transported to a different world. There he meets others like himself, transplants from Earth called Drifters who have been recruited to fight a war against an implacable foe who wishes to eradicate all human life.

A mix of hyper-violent action scenes and picture-drama style comedy skits. While it involves characters from a wide variety of time periods, it mainly depicts warfare out of the medieval and Sengoku eras.

  • Hibike! Euphonium 2

Posted on December 29, 2016 5:00 am by Offkorn Comment

Continuing along the road to Nationals, the Kitauji school band must overcome several new personal challenges that threaten to tear it apart from within.

Much like the first season this has a large amount of relationship drama lightened by comedic bursts arising from Kumiko’s personality. Which may be something of a shock if you’re coming into this straight from the movie version, which downplayed the characters’ personal issues.

  • Keijo!!!!!!!!: Hip Whip Girl

Posted on December 28, 2016 11:49 am by Offkorn Comment

Keijo is a professional sport similar to sumo wrestling played on floating platforms in which girls use their butts and breasts to knock their opponents either to the ground or into the water. Having just graduated high school, Nozomi Kaminashi seeks to rise to the top of the Keijo rankings for the large cash prizes.

This is a hybrid show. One part sports shounen and one part ecchi comedy it combines serious training, over-the-top attacks and abilities, and a ton of fanservice.

  • Magic-Kyun! Renaissance

Posted on December 28, 2016 4:44 am by Offkorn Comment

Wanting to be more like her mother, Kohana transfers into the Hoshinomori School of Magic Arts. There she meets six boys, each with their own artistic specialty, who all take an interest in her unusual talent for arrangement and cheerful smile.

A school life harem with a comedic style closer to that of a gag comedy. It doesn’t actually begin to focus on romance until around the eighth episode, instead mainly being concerned with resolving the characters’ personal issues and getting everyone together to organize a successful school festival. It’s also not much of a fantasy show; up until the twelfth episode the ‘magic’ on display only exists to visualize the artists’ skill level.

  • Arslan Senki: Gaiden

Posted on December 27, 2016 5:11 pm by Offkorn Comment

After leaving Kashan Fortress, while on the road to Peshawar the protagonists stop for the night and make camp. Having to patrol the area and not trusting Arslan to stay away from danger, his guardians leave him with Gieve… who turns out to be something of a danger himself.

An Anime-original comedic supplement for the main series. The focus of the comedy doesn’t require any particular knowledge of the characters, so it may be possible to watch this as a stand-alone.

Following the events within Sindhura, a banquet is held to thank Arslan and his companions for their assistance in resolving the inheritance issue.

This OVA also consists of pure comedy, which puts it in a difficult position. You can’t watch it as a stand-alone because it’s directly tied into the franchise’s plotline, yet it would also be difficult to watch during the parent series due to the drastic difference in tone.

Just before the main editor of the Genbu Shobo publishing company’s dictionary department retires, he takes the unusual step of recruiting Mitsuya Majime from the sales department as his replacement. While Mitsuya does not have much in the way of social skills, he makes up for it with a deep understanding and love of word usage.

A serious working-class show focused on the publishing industry. Specifically the Japanese dictionary publishing industry. While technically a drama, it often bears more of a resemblance to a laid-back slice of life and includes some romance along with a touch of comedy.

  • GRAVITY DAZE The Animation: Ouverture

Posted on December 27, 2016 1:22 am by Offkorn Comment

Kat and Raven are exploring new areas far from Hekseville after a gravity explosion, and find themselves being attacked by unusual numbers of Nevi.

This promotional Anime for the upcoming second Gravity Daze game is split into two parts, which are presented in non-linear order. The first half has the two protagonists fighting off a hoard of Nevi that attack a port city, while the second half shows the initial gravity explosion that launched them away from Hekseville.

Tamaki is overwhelmed on her first day of high school by the number and variety of available clubs to join. Not having any particular goal she wanders around and eventually stumbles on the SNS Club, which makes video games. After giving the idea some thought she decides to give it a try.

A schoolgirl slice of life comedy featuring a mix of reaction-based gags and everyday situations that’s a bit heavier on the latter.

As a huge fujoshi, Kae loves nothing more than imagining romantic relationships between attractive boys. After receiving a massive shock one night while watching Anime, she holes up in her room for an entire week. The seclusion does wonders for her figure and she now find’s herself inundated with male attention… but she would prefer they direct it toward each other instead of her.

A romantic comedy with the twist being the girl would rather see the suitors paired up with each other. The romance is of the standard harem variety while the comedy is reaction-based and mostly centered on Kae’s otaku interests.
