  • MoNSTER SONIC! D’Artagnyan no Idol Sengen

Posted on October 4, 2017 12:26 pm by Offkorn Comment

One night D’Artagnyan stumbles upon Lucifer singing alone in the moonlight and becomes overcome by a feeling she can’t explain. At the urging of her friend she attends a concert held by Lucifer’s former bandmates, now a famous idol group, and it’s there she realizes that she wants to sing as well.

While most of the series is a lighthearted take on becoming an idol, episode 0 is nearly a pure drama. Also note that although this is a part of the Monster Strike franchise, watching it does not require having seen any of the related shows.

  • Gekijouban: Sword Art Online -Ordinal Scale-

Posted on September 27, 2017 3:47 pm by Offkorn Comment

The SAO incident, which trapped 10,000 people in a virtual reality game for several years, is in the past and the survivors are now moving on with their lives. Technology is advancing as well and a competitor to the Amusphere soon appears on the market, one which provides a similar experience using augmented reality. Marketed as being safer than the full-immersion required by VR, the Augma quickly amasses a large following… but as Kirito and his friends discover, this AR experience is far more dangerous than it appears.

An action-drama with a romance subplot that takes place after Sword Art Online II. While it provides a brief recap of previous events at the beginning, there isn’t much point in watching it if you haven’t at least seen Sword Art Online.

  • Battle Girl High School: Battle Girl Project

Posted on September 20, 2017 12:17 pm by Offkorn Comment

At first glance the girls of Shinjugamine high school seem to be just normal everyday students, but they are in fact elite fighters trained to combat incursions by mysterious creatures called Irous. However, after having won two major battles in the past they’ve since grown complacent and sloppy… so much so that they must now undergo complete retraining.

A schoolgirl show based on a game featuring a mix of action, comedy, idols, daily life events, and minor ecchi content. While the story takes place after certain events in the game, it does not seem to be necessary to play that in order to watch this.

What do a boy genius and an unpopular idol group have in common? They both want to land on the moon! Join Susumu Tsukumo, his exuberant android assistant Kiku #8, and the eccentric girls of Mix JUICE as they explore ever more outlandish methods to reach the moon.

A wacky situational comedy with a moderate amount of ecchi, most of which comes from the girls (usually Kiku #8) ending up in various states of undress.

  • Idol Memories

Posted on May 16, 2017 12:40 am by Offkorn Comment

Virtual reality technology has now advanced to the point that people can now experience idol concerts from the comfort of their own homes. In the wake of this a worldwide idol ranking system has been created alongside schools specifically designed to train new idols. StarRing and Shadow are two such idol groups who seek to rise to the top of the charts.

Don’t let the first episode fool you, as this is not an action series. It’s a straight-forward idol show with all the attendant training, cute girls doing cute things, and industry/friendship drama that entails. Do note however that half of each episode is devoted to a live-action cast segment.

In the hopes of turning around a stagnant economy and general poor perception of politicians, various political parties are created in the hopes of electing idols into top government positions. Not everyone is happy about this however, and now the most recent idol addition to the Diet must contend with both learning how the government actually works as well as interference from scheming old-school politicians.

An idol-centric comedy featuring cartoonishly evil politicians and special interest groups as its antagonists. In general, it presents and deals with serious issues in the least serious manner possible.

  • Uta no ☆ Prince-sama♪: Maji Love 1000%

Posted on January 13, 2017 5:01 am by Offkorn Comment

Haruka Nanami wishes to become a composer, and the first stop on her journey is the prestigious Saotome Academy boarding school for the musically inclined. There she meets six aspiring idols who each take an interest in her.

An Anime-original interpretation of a long-running series of ‘love adventure’ games. The show combines melodrama and wacky comedy segments with a small touch of romance. It’s not really about idols or making music until nearly the very end, focusing instead on the various characters’ personalities and personal issues.

  • Aikatsu!

Posted on November 30, 2016 6:58 am by Offkorn Comment

    aikatsu_title

Ichigo is the daughter of a lunch-shop owner and has no particular interest in idols. One day her friend Aoi, an idol otaku, takes her to a concert held by the current top idol Mizuki. The experience changes her life, and it’s not long before the two girls enter the idol-focused Starlight Academy to become idols themselves. Can Ichigo manage to reach the same heights as Mizuki?

Aikatsu! is a lengthy series that paints the idol industry in a persistently upbeat light. Win or lose the girls are nearly always cheerful, and there is never any resentment or envy shown toward anyone. Each new season (apart from the last) shakes the cast up; the second season introduces a rival school with its own set of characters and the third replaces the original main cast while almost completely ignoring the other school’s existence. It’s also worth mentioning that the show is designed to promote an arcade game and so will occasionally come across like an advertisement.

  • Aikatsu! Music Awards: Minna de Shou o Moraccha Ima Show!

Posted on November 29, 2016 4:35 pm by Offkorn Comment

    aikatsu-music-awards-title

Akari, Sumire, and Hinaki host an awards show for the various Aikatsu performances. Ichigo, Ran, and Aoi eventually join them while Juri runs a marathon of sorts as a background event.

This movie covers the event that’s mentioned in the parent series‘ 145th episode, and takes place some indeterminable time after the 147th episode. It ends up being exactly what it sounds like; an ‘awards’ show that highlights various performances from the TV show’s second and third seasons by declaring them the winner of made-up awards. Unlike the previous movie you actually can watch this as a stand-alone if you just want to experience some of the series’ musical segments.
