  • Akazukin ChaCha

Posted on July 22, 2017 10:52 pm by Offkorn Comment

Putting aside his misgivings regarding her erratic magic results, the great magician Seravy sends his apprentice ChaCha off to magic school with a mystic accessory set for protection. Joining her are a young werewolf and the apprentice of Seravy’s rival, both vying for her affection. Their help will be necessary in the days to come as she meets new friends and rivals while fending off attacks from a shadowy dark lord.

A random-style comedy with a love polygon subfocus and minor magical girl aspects in the first third. Those elements become the central focus in the middle part of the series, injecting a bit of drama, before eventually disappearing completely in the last third when it becomes a pure gag comedy. While originally based on a manga, it very quickly goes in its own direction.

As work on the game nears the finish line Tomoya and the others must face challenges both new, in the form of a rival circle, and old. Will their relationship survive its completion or will they all return to their separate lives?

Continues from where the first season left off with a similar genre composition and themes. The main change is that it develops a larger focus on profession-related concerns.

Known as the “God of Fighting” in the hugely popular MMO Glory, Xiu Ye ends up screwed over by the manager of the pro-player club he leads and forced into early retirement. Contractually barred from re-joining the professional scene for the next year, he decides to work his way up from nothing on a new game server with the intent of eventually taking back the top spot.

Half set in a fantasy gameworld where all the action takes place, and half set in the real-world where the tone is more serious/reflective. Both parts are peppered with comic relief.

A fully self-contained action movie that uses cell-shaded CGI.

Following a nasty fall during a figure skating competition, Tazusa Sakurano awakes to find herself possessed by the spirit of a recently deceased stunt pilot. Now the two of them must find a way to co-exist while Tazusa redoubles her efforts to reach the Olympics.

Part ‘rise to the top’ competitive sports show and part romantic comedy. It’s a bit more of the former than the latter and has a particular focus on reaction shots.

The members of Libra are invited to a dinner party as congratulations for successfully defending the town, a gathering that gets crashed by a criminal organization.

A mix of comedy and action similar to the parent series weighted heavily toward comedy. While it takes place after that, the story is essentially stand-alone as long as you know who the characters are.

Tormented at night by a strange ribbon-wielding ghost, Kotarou Tennouji seeks out the president of the school’s supernatural research club for aid. He ends up joining the club along with several other students… each with their own hidden abilities.

The show starts out as a comedy, quickly introduces action and drama, and then fluctuates between the three in an almost episodic manner. While the genre shifts throughout, the theme permanently changes from school-life to ‘secret societies at war’ a little past the halfway point.
