While Shami Stovall‘s first Frith Chronicles novel is not terrible, the pacing is oddly rushed following the protagonist’s departure from the island and the protagonist himself acts like an idiot. Combined with the highly questionable descriptive blurbs for later installments (how many times are they going to try and fail to cure this plague or fight world-ending godbeasts exactly?) there’s just not enough to hook my interest in continuing the series.
The Resonance novels are an odd combination of isekai and post-isekai which, initially, seem more like an excuse to write giantess-fetish fanservice than tell a proper story. Fortunately the first book evens out by the halfway point and becomes decent enough in the end. The second however starts out significantly worse, with both conflicting and repetitious exposition alongside questionable behavior from various characters (including a character-assassinated female lead). I had to drop it a quarter of the way in.
