At the end of the 19th century the Kingdom of Albion has been split into two powers, the Empire and the Republic, separated by a giant wall. This is the story of five girls of different backgrounds who have come together to work as spies for the Republic through the prestigious Queen’s Mayfaire highschool.

An alternate history action-drama that uses ‘cute girls doing cute things’ as its source of comic relief. Note that the show has several time-gaps and is not aired chronologically; chronological order is 2-3, 5, 4, 9, 1, 7, 6, 8, 10-12.

After rescuing the 168th empress of the Raalgon empire from a 2000-year time stasis, the laid-back garbage collector Banjou Tylor decides to accompany her on a journey to the center of the galaxy.

A somewhat random comedy that can be watched without having seen the parent series, as despite the various references it takes place thousands of years after it ended.

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM: Twilight AXIS

Sent to recover information on the Psycho Frame technology from the abandoned AXIS asteroid base, Arlette Almage and Danton Hyleg find themselves in a desperate fight for survival after discovering that it’s been occupied by an unknown group of mobile suits.

The action-heavy part of the series focuses on a new conflict at the asteroid while much of the drama comes from Arlette’s memories of Lalah/Char and events that occurred in the first Gundam series & Gyakushuu no Char movie.

Gekijouban: Sword Art Online -Ordinal Scale-

The SAO incident, which trapped 10,000 people in a virtual reality game for several years, is in the past and the survivors are now moving on with their lives. Technology is advancing as well and a competitor to the Amusphere soon appears on the market, one which provides a similar experience using augmented reality. Marketed as being safer than the full-immersion required by VR, the Augma quickly amasses a large following… but as Kirito and his friends discover, this AR experience is far more dangerous than it appears.

An action-drama with a romance subplot that takes place after Sword Art Online II. While it provides a brief recap of previous events at the beginning, there isn’t much point in watching it if you haven’t at least seen Sword Art Online.

In an alternate timeline evolution produced four varieties of humans; animal-morphs, centaurs, merpeople, and angels/draconids. Their differences lead to the creation of strict equality laws in order to prevent discrimination and war, resulting in a similar quality of life with certain unique challenges to address.

A daily life schoolgirl comedy with a strong educational bent and intensely politically correct setting. The life lessons primarily highlight biological and sociological issues while the comedy is mostly situational or reaction-based with some ecchi periodically thrown in.

Battle Girl High School: Battle Girl Project

At first glance the girls of Shinjugamine high school seem to be just normal everyday students, but they are in fact elite fighters trained to combat incursions by mysterious creatures called Irous. However, after having won two major battles in the past they’ve since grown complacent and sloppy… so much so that they must now undergo complete retraining.

A schoolgirl show based on a game featuring a mix of action, comedy, idols, daily life events, and minor ecchi content. While the story takes place after certain events in the game, it does not seem to be necessary to play that in order to watch this.

Project Zeorymer

15 years ago a secret society had their most powerful mecha, the godlike Zeorymer, stolen by a traitor and were forced underground. Now having nearly finished constructing seven other robots they set out to recover what was stolen and cement their domination of the world. The original thief is long dead however and it falls to Masato Akitsu, who knows nothing about any of this, to pilot Zeorymer against the incoming enemy attacks.

An action-heavy series which has a number of character-driven dramatic subplots and a little nudity. Though inspired by a manga, this version heavily alters the characters and plot developments to a point where it can no longer be considered an adaptation.

ATOM: THE BEGINNING

Largely looked down on by their more conventional peers for their philosophical outlook on robotics, the two members of the prestigious Nerima University’s Lab 7 have finally created what they believe to be the perfect robot: An android with a heart and soul.

A prequel to the Tetsuwan Atom franchise that does not require having seen anything else. While it does contain some philosophy and technobabble, for the most part it’s a conventional action comedy.

FRAME ARMS GIRL

Though several people received a test model Frame Arms Girl named Gourai in the mail, Ao Gennai was the only one able to activate it. As a result she’s soon inundated with other Frame Arms models all wanting to battle Gourai.

A series that’s part proxy battle action, part advertisement, and part ‘cute girls doing cute things’. It uses a mix of conventional (Ao) and CG (the Frame Arms) animation while the ecchi takes the form of constant panty-shots alongside the occasional suggestive scene.
