The story has both a similar writing style and gritty fantasy setting as the author&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/web-novels-vol-6\/\" title=\"Web Novels, Vol. 6\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New Dark Lord<\/a> series, but specifically focuses on a variety of downtrodden characters trying to pull off something akin to a heist.<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalroad.com\/fiction\/104556\/recursed\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RE:CURSED<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>A story from the author of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/web-novels-vol-12\/\" title=\"Web Novels, Vol. 12\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kin of J\u00f6rmungandr<\/a> with a similarly large focus on internal observations, this is a regressor revenge fantasy with a setting resembling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/hellpoint-codevein\/\" title=\"HELLPOINT &#038; CodeVein\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hellpoint<\/a>&#8216;s which opens up far more quickly.<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalroad.com\/fiction\/104430\/goblin-teeth-a-monster-party-litrpg\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GOBLIN TEETH<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>A grimdark story focused on a group of monster outcasts (eventually) forming an adventuring party. It&#8217;s very well written but also occasionally gets quite brutal&#8230; although it does feature an appreciable amount of comic relief. Think along the lines of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/goblin-slayer\/\" title=\"Goblin Slayer\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Goblin Slayer<\/a> (minus the sexual aspects) told from the monsters&#8217; point of view.<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalroad.com\/fiction\/98131\/i-woke-up-as-the-villainesss-friend-i-dont-want\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">I Woke Up as the Villainess&#8217;s Friend. I Don\u2019t Want to Be the Next Dark Queen<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>A &#8216;transmigrated into an otome game&#8217; story with the twist that by happinstance the protagonist ends up filling the role of aspiring dark lord while also being presented as a heroine. It reminds me a bit of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/web-novels-vol-4\/\" title=\"Web Novels, Vol. 4\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tori Transmigrated<\/a> and initially only really suffers from far too long dungeon expeditions. This game world supposedly puts little focus on combat, so it&#8217;s weird the author decided to spend so much time dragging battles out with constantly escalating encounters.<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalroad.com\/fiction\/32615\/rend-prior-cycle-old-version\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">REND: Prior Cycle<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>It took a little while, but eventually I saw what the author meant when they said they were writing by the seat of their pants rather than properly planning things out. On the one hand the spontaneity is interesting, but on the other events don&#8217;t really feel connected and quite a few loose ends begin to accumulate by the end of the second arc. Another thing is that rather than a psychopath the protagonist comes across more like an autist; namely her obsession with completely arbitrary rules and hatred of being touched. Hopefully <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalroad.com\/fiction\/117255\/rend\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the rewrite<\/a> ends up better.<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalroad.com\/fiction\/114613\/gamer-girl-isekai\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GAMER GIRL ISEKAI<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>From the same author as <em>RED<\/em> above, I&#8217;m pretty sure this is supposed to be some kind of murderhobo asshole-protagonist parody (it starts off with notable <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/KonoSuba\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KonoSuba<\/a> vibes). The problem with parody though is that it&#8217;s very easy to actually become the thing you&#8217;re supposed to be mocking.<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalroad.com\/fiction\/84223\/sins-of-the-healer-isekai-time-travel-restart\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sins of the Healer<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>Developed an instant dislike of the protagonist.
