{"id":4039,"date":"2017-11-30T07:01:02","date_gmt":"2017-11-30T07:01:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/?p=4039"},"modified":"2020-08-22T10:49:40","modified_gmt":"2020-08-22T10:49:40","slug":"semi-random-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/semi-random-shows\/","title":{"rendered":"Semi-Random Shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some recently watched non-Anime shows that were picked up for no particular reason:<\/p>\n<p>TV Shows<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Gods_(TV_series)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">American Gods<\/a>: Far too much edgy atmosphere and smoke machines masquerading as depth.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Daredevil_(TV_series)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Daredevil<\/a>: Apart from some of the action scenes dragging on too long, and some of them just looking ridiculous, this does a good job of balancing the investigative side with the crime-fighting side. The second season is less adept at this and goes too far overboard with the ninja army (it also comes dangerously close to goreporn territory).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Punisher_(TV_series)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">The Punisher<\/a>: A lot more varied than expected. That variety ends up being a flaw at first, with events feeling disconnected, but changes into a positive following the point those disparate elements begin interacting.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jessica_Jones_(TV_series)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Jessica Jones<\/a>: The overabundance of early-series sex scenes and flashbacks aside this is a decently engaging gritty drama with an impressively creepy villain.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Luke_Cage_(TV_series)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Luke Cage<\/a>: A very good street-level crime drama. However, The flashbacks are not integrated well and it sort of loses focus as it progresses.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iron_Fist_(TV_series)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Iron Fist<\/a>: The early series suffers from the psychiatric ward angle, the mid-series corporate scenes feel artificial, and it just suffers in general from coming across like a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Macbeth\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Macbeth<\/a> imitation. The martial arts sequences are pretty good though.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Defenders_(miniseries)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">The Defenders<\/a>: The ninja army bits are the weakest parts of <em>Daredevil S2<\/em> and <em>Iron Fist<\/em>, and this is completely focused on them so&#8230;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Movies<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Doctor_Strange_(2016_film)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Doctor Strange<\/a>: Most of the visual effects are pretty interesting (if occasionally overwhelming), but the transition from egotistical neurosurgeon to selfless sorcerer happens far too quickly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some recently watched non-Anime shows that were picked up for no particular reason: TV Shows American Gods: Far too much edgy atmosphere and smoke machines masquerading as depth.
