{"id":7867,"date":"2020-02-02T14:39:48","date_gmt":"2020-02-02T14:39:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/?p=7867"},"modified":"2020-08-22T10:46:44","modified_gmt":"2020-08-22T10:46:44","slug":"assorted-mostly-dc-movies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/assorted-mostly-dc-movies\/","title":{"rendered":"Assorted, Mostly DC, Movies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Went on a brief movie kick recently in a fit of boredom (though I watched the first two on the list below at the time they were released):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Detective_Pikachu_(film)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Detective Pikachu<\/a>: Reynolds and the pok\u00e9mon are good; the humans are all extremely cringe.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Avengers:_Endgame\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Avengers: Endgame<\/a>: Does a fantastic job wrapping up all the disparate plotlines featured across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/marvel-cinematic-universe\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/a>. Surprisingly, a good chunk of it leans strongly toward comedy.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mad_Max:_Fury_Road\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Mad Max: Fury Road<\/a>: Most of it is quite strong&#8230; if a little odd in places. The third act however (revisiting the citadel) is a disaster.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Suicide_Squad_(film)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Suicide Squad<\/a>: The prologue bits (before they&#8217;re captured) are pretty good and the visuals are stellar throughout, but the rest is pretty meh and I wasn&#8217;t feeling the &#8216;forced to fight for the government&#8217; angle.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wonder_Woman_(2017_film)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Wonder Woman<\/a>: Eh. The first two <em>Captain America<\/em> movies do something similar far more competently.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Batman_v_Superman:_Dawn_of_Justice\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/a>: This is a very strange movie which plays out like a TV miniseries for the first two-thirds, featuring more thriller elements than action. But then <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Doomsday_(DC_Comics)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Doomsday<\/a> appears and <em>holy shit<\/em>. It&#8217;s like night and day; an insanely strong finish worth the price of entry alone (and Wonder Woman is better here than she is in her own movie).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Justice_League_(film)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Justice League<\/a>: Not sure what this was supposed to be. An imitation <em>Infinity War<\/em>? It doesn&#8217;t succeed.
