{"id":7935,"date":"2020-03-16T06:20:25","date_gmt":"2020-03-16T06:20:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/?p=7935"},"modified":"2020-08-22T10:45:06","modified_gmt":"2020-08-22T10:45:06","slug":"batman-lucifer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/batman-lucifer\/","title":{"rendered":"Batman &#038; Lucifer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Batman_(franchise)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Batman<\/a> prequel <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gotham_(TV_series)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Gotham<\/a> starts off remarkably good, basically a crime drama with some action elements and a moderate streak of eccentricity, but as it progresses events become increasingly unhinged. So while there are a few good bits in the second season (the third is garbage), ultimately I can&#8217;t recommend watching beyond the first.<\/p>\n<p>I specifically avoided watching <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Dark_Knight_Rises\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">The Dark Knight Rises<\/a> when it was released mainly due to a review that said it was more a Bruce Wayne movie than a Batman movie. That review ended up being spot on. More problematic though is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bane_(DC_Comics)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bane<\/a>; why does he sound like an English aristocrat? His voice is beyond disconcerting. Overall I&#8217;d say <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/assorted-mostly-dc-movies\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Batman vs. Superman<\/a> tells this sort of &#8216;aging Batman&#8217; story far more competently, with a far more believable villain, and a much bigger payoff.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lucifer_(TV_series)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Lucifer<\/a> meanwhile turned out to be a hybrid of buddy cop police procedural and urban fantasy familial drama. In quite a few ways it&#8217;s reminiscent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/assorted-procedurals-and-dramas\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Castle<\/a>, and so far it&#8217;s the only <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DC_Comics\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">DC<\/a> TV series I&#8217;ve seen that manages to avoid deteriorating over time: What you get in the first episode is what you get in the 40th.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Batman prequel Gotham starts off remarkably good, basically a crime drama with some action elements and a moderate streak of eccentricity, but as it progresses events become increasingly unhinged.
