{"id":9065,"date":"2021-03-06T23:49:41","date_gmt":"2021-03-06T23:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/?p=9065"},"modified":"2021-04-15T06:26:12","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T06:26:12","slug":"final-fantasy-xiv-online-pre-heavensward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/final-fantasy-xiv-online-pre-heavensward\/","title":{"rendered":"FINAL FANTASY XIV: ONLINE &#8211; Pre-Heavensward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As it happens, getting from the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com\/wiki\/The_Ultimate_Weapon\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">end<\/a>&#8216; of the base game to the start of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Final_Fantasy_XIV:_Heavensward\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Heavensward<\/a> takes <em>quite a bit of time<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Not only are there <a href=\"https:\/\/ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com\/wiki\/Seventh_Astral_Era_Quests\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a ton<\/a> of busywork main storyline quests between them, but there&#8217;s also a massive amount of previously endgame content to plow through (if you&#8217;re so inclined). Enough that if you&#8217;re normally in the habit of accepting all sidequests this game just might be able to break it. I ended up clearing every non-grind sidequest except <a href=\"https:\/\/ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com\/wiki\/The_Howling_Eye_(Extreme)\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Extreme Garuda<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com\/wiki\/Akh_Afah_Amphitheatre_(Extreme)\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shiva<\/a> (which I&#8217;ve had trouble finding a party with the requisite teamwork for; got lucky finding a highly competent tank for <a href=\"https:\/\/ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com\/wiki\/The_Striking_Tree_(Extreme)\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Extreme Ramuh<\/a>), though for obvious reasons I cheated (by advertising an unsynced run to attract some level 80 players) to get the <a href=\"https:\/\/ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com\/wiki\/Bahamut_Quests\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bahamut questline<\/a> cleared.<\/p>\n<p>Had to ultimately upgrade from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/final-fantasy-xiv-online-first-impressions\/\" title=\"FINAL FANTASY XIV: ONLINE \u2013 First Impressions\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">free trial<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/na.finalfantasyxiv.com\/lodestone\/character\/34522013\/class_job\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">full game<\/a> to deal with the twin issues of the 300k money cap and dwindling inventory space. Being able to access the marketplace and use retainers makes a <em>world<\/em> of difference (unlocking <a href=\"https:\/\/ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com\/wiki\/Red_Mage\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Mage<\/a> was certainly a welcome bonus as well).<\/p>\n<ul>Some general thoughts on the pre-<em>Heavensward<\/em> content:<br \/>\n&#8211; The main quests start out a bit interesting, get sketchy, and then go completely to shit around level 30.<br \/>\n&#8211; The class quests are much better, but some (like Leatherworker, Botanist, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com\/wiki\/Blue_Mage\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Mage<\/a>) have cringey\/annoying themes.<br \/>\n&#8211; The sidequests range from utter dreck to surprisingly competent (<a href=\"https:\/\/primagames.com\/tips\/ffxiv-hildibrand-quests-full-list-hildibrand-adventures\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hildibrand<\/a>, several later <a href=\"https:\/\/ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com\/wiki\/Delivery_Moogle_Quests\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Moogle Delivery<\/a> quests).<br \/>\n&#8211; The main questline alone gives more than enough experience to level a single class to 50.<br \/>\n&#8211; You&#8217;ll want to rush completion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com\/wiki\/Main_Scenario_Quests#Seventh_Umbral_Era_Quests\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seventh Umbral Era quests<\/a> in order to unlock faster travel speed and flight ASAP.<\/ul>\n<p>Time to see if all those claims about the quests &#8220;getting better in the expansions&#8221; have any truth to them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As it happens, getting from the &#8216;end&#8216; of the base game to the start of Heavensward takes quite a bit of time.
