{"id":9445,"date":"2022-01-14T14:56:54","date_gmt":"2022-01-14T14:56:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/?p=9445"},"modified":"2022-01-15T11:06:23","modified_gmt":"2022-01-15T11:06:23","slug":"the-worlds-finest-assassin-2-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/the-worlds-finest-assassin-2-3\/","title":{"rendered":"THE WORLD&#8217;S FINEST Assassin: Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat #2-3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Decided to check out <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_World%27s_Finest_Assassin_Gets_Reincarnated_in_Another_World_as_an_Aristocrat\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">this series<\/a> after the <a href=\"https:\/\/myanimelist.net\/anime\/47790\/Sekai_Saikou_no_Ansatsusha_Isekai_Kizoku_ni_Tensei_suru\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anime adaptation<\/a> turned out far better than I was expecting.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Worlds-Assassin-Reincarnated-Another-Aristocrat-ebook\/dp\/B08R3DTLFC\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">second book<\/a> picks up immediately from where that ends and pivots into school life territory. Although the setting is more like college\/university than high school it&#8217;s still not exactly a welcome change. Other issues would be how the romance elements come across as even more awkward than they do in the Anime and a bizarrely heavy focus on food\/cooking.<\/p>\n<p>More serious though is just how different the dialog style is. I&#8217;m not sure if this is a problem with the source or with the translator\/editor, but I&#8217;m strongly starting to suspect it&#8217;s the latter. With the notable exception of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/tag\/kumodesuga\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kumodesuga<\/a> all the translated Japanese LNs I&#8217;ve read have had the same sort of &#8216;voice&#8217;; the characters all use the same phrasings and talk in a slightly stilted syntax.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, the novel was entertaining enough despite its flaws and so I grabbed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Worlds-Assassin-Reincarnated-Another-Aristocrat-ebook\/dp\/B091PQ5NX4\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the third<\/a> as well. This one drops the school life focus to play up the series&#8217; overpowered protagonist and harem aspects to not so impressive effect. There&#8217;s only so many ways the central three characters can praise each others&#8217; abilities and they&#8217;re all used here frequently and repeatedly. It&#8217;s all very self-congratulatory and, frankly, exhausting. If the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Worlds-Assassin-Reincarnated-Another-Aristocrat-ebook\/dp\/B09BMYR54F\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">upcoming fourth book<\/a> doesn&#8217;t do something different in the character interaction department I&#8217;m probably going to have to drop it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Decided to check out this series after the Anime adaptation turned out far better than I was expecting.
