{"id":9484,"date":"2022-03-08T06:21:24","date_gmt":"2022-03-08T06:21:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/?p=9484"},"modified":"2022-03-09T12:34:05","modified_gmt":"2022-03-09T12:34:05","slug":"a-few-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/a-few-games\/","title":{"rendered":"A Few Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Atelier_Sophie_2:_The_Alchemist_of_the_Mysterious_Dream\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Atelier Sophie 2 ~The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream~<\/a> &#8211; Gameplay-wise there wasn&#8217;t any issue, it&#8217;s exactly what you&#8217;d expect from the franchise in terms of gathering\/crafting and the combat is basically the same as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/atelier-mysterious-trilogy\/\" title=\"Atelier: Mysterious Trilogy\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the first Sophie game<\/a>. The problem is the visuals; everything is very zoomed-in to the point I kind of felt like I was playing an emulated <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nintendo_64\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">N64<\/a> game.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bravely_Default_2\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bravely Default II<\/a> &#8211; This game, meanwhile, has a decent field of vision but unfortunately suffers from incredibly dumb character behavior. Ended up shutting it off in disgust mid-cutscene.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ys_IX:_Monstrum_Nox\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ys IX: Monstrum Nox<\/a> &#8211; Chronologically taking place after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/tag\/ys\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the earlier Ys games<\/a> (Dogi lookin&#8217; real old) this one also features some dumb character behavior. Not enough to be a deal killer on its own, but when combined with the lack of environmental variety (you&#8217;re trapped in a single town and its subterranean tunnels) certainly starts tipping the scales in the wrong direction. A bigger issue personally however is the combat; it&#8217;s <em>extremely<\/em> fast-paced and heavy on enemy numbers. To the point where Flash Guard\/Dodge can&#8217;t really be used strategically in non-boss fights and you&#8217;re often reduced to just button-mashing to clear everything out.<\/p>\n<p>Partway through the third chapter at the moment and unsure I want to bother pressing on. Think I&#8217;m going to take a break to poke at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Elden_Ring\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elden Ring<\/a> for a bit instead, maybe if I bounce off that game like I did <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sekiro:_Shadows_Die_Twice\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sekiro<\/a> and the original <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dark_Souls\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dark Souls<\/a> (while I&#8217;m fond of <em>Souls-like<\/em> games, actual <em>Souls<\/em> games tend to just feel clunky to me) I&#8217;ll give it a second chance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Atelier Sophie 2 ~The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream~ &#8211; Gameplay-wise there wasn&#8217;t any issue, it&#8217;s exactly what you&#8217;d expect from the franchise in terms of gathering\/crafting and the combat is basically the same as the first Sophie game.
