{"id":9693,"date":"2022-07-04T10:06:47","date_gmt":"2022-07-04T10:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/?p=9693"},"modified":"2022-07-04T12:23:51","modified_gmt":"2022-07-04T12:23:51","slug":"wasteland-3-triangle-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/wasteland-3-triangle-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"Wasteland 3 &#038; Triangle Strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I picked up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gog.com\/en\/game\/wasteland_3\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wasteland 3<\/a> quite some time back on a whim, despite not being particularly fond of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wasteland_2\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its prequel<\/a>. Played up through clearing the Bizarre location, then put it down to potentially continue later&#8230; which occurred around the time I was playing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/cyberpunk-2077\/\" title=\"Cyberpunk 2077\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cyberpunk<\/a>. So at this point I can safely say I&#8217;m not going back to it.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s okay I guess? There&#8217;s just this weird balancing issue where you kind of have to max out a couple unique skills on each character as quickly as possible to progress smoothly, while your attribute progression will basically be identical across all characters. I&#8217;m not really a fan of the midwestern flavor either.<\/p>\n<p>Another game I was playing at that time was <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Triangle_Strategy\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Triangle Strategy<\/a>, which I ~think~ I heard about on some forum or other. And as with <em>Wasteland<\/em> my interest just kind of drained away one day for a similar reason: While the game boasts non-linearity in its storyline decisions it has extremely rigid character upgrade options. You can&#8217;t change a character&#8217;s equipment and their ability upgrade trees are ~75% generic attribute increases, which gets boring real fast.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s damn near criminal that <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Final_Fantasy_Tactics\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Final Fantasy Tactics<\/a> continues to remain one of best examples of a complex, large-scale tactical RPG.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I picked up Wasteland 3 quite some time back on a whim, despite not being particularly fond of its prequel.
