This is very much a bait-and-switch&#8230; though one for the better I&#8217;d say. Instead of following around an awkward genderswapped gamer, you get treated to the whims of a manic pixie dragongirl (who was formerly some guy&#8217;s roleplay character) as she explores the new world she&#8217;s found herself in while decimating any who oppose her.<\/p>\n<p>It does, however, have what&#8217;s likely to be a fatal flaw: The child she makes into a soulbound servant for ~reasons~ is being positioned to become the primary love interest. And this isn&#8217;t &#8220;an adult in the body of child&#8221; mind you, but an actual child. Needless to say that&#8217;s going to be a deal-killer for quite a few people, myself included the moment it passes beyond &#8216;misunderstandings&#8217; and innuendo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B09N8XGN31\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ihoujin, Dungeon ni Moguru<\/a> is also misleading, but for a different reason (the title is accurate enough). What we have here appears to be a slice of life cooking shounen disguised with elements of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gate_(novel_series)\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GATE<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offkorn.com\/blog\/tag\/danmachi\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DanMachi<\/a>. It really does seem like most LN authors are just failed restauranteurs at this point.<\/p>\n<p>Oddly enough, the side characters and worldbuilding are <em>almost<\/em> interesting\/entertaining enough to offset the unexpected focus. In the end the problem mainly comes down to the protagonist&#8217;s incredibly inconsistent characterization. The author can&#8217;t seem to decide if he should be an awkward teenager in over his head or a mature, hyper-competent former mercenary&#8230; which results in his personality flip-flopping between the two seemingly at random.
