Dragon EmperoR & Leveling my Farm on the Monster Frontier

While there’s nothing too objectionable about how Eric Vall‘s first Dragon Emperor novel starts off, the protagonist just comes across as far too immature to me. He’s supposed to be 25 with experience working as an EMT yet acts like a schoolboy battle shounen protagonist.

Carter Wyld‘s first Isekai Farming novel turned out much better than I expected based on the presentation. Oh there are certainly some minor technical issues in the beginning (most notably the deed acquisition scene being missing) and the protagonist’s constant use of mission-related terminology can be annoying, but it’s surprisingly readable for the most part. The main issues being there’s no reason given for why a former combat engineer and firefighter would possess sword-wielding skills, and many of the event developments come across as fairly spontaneous/haphazard.
