The second of Max Pants‘ Ardenth Academy novels continues on with the same conversational style and a slightly greater romantic focus (along with indications of future harem developments). Issues would be a couple instances of unclear/broken event chronology and still no clarification on the mechanics/restrictions of the protagonist’s body-hopping ability.
Although Ilona Andrews‘ first Maggie the Undying novel has some distinct similarities to their Kate Daniels series (mainly in dialog style, relationship development, and one particular re-iterated scene toward the end) it’s very much it’s own thing with quite a bit of detail put into the setting. The only real negatives I can point to are the protagonist’s occasionally inconsistent disposition and several highly questionable event developments at the end.
